Descendents of Antoine Rossignole dit Blue  (1827-aft. 1870)

Eldest son of Antoine Bleau dit Rossignal (b. 1790) and Margaret Bourdon (b. 1805)

Many thanks to Jan ----, for the following email sent March 10, 2007:

Dear Mike,

I might be able to help you out with the confusion of the lineage of John Baptiste BLEAU dit ROSSIGNOL.  In your website the you quoted the following:

Interestingly, the headman of Jeandron Rossignol's band in 1868 -- Way ke ge ke zhick -- was also the headman of the band to which Jeandron's brother, Etienne Blue, belonged 21 years later, in 1889 -- Way ke che ge shig.  This may well have been the Pembina Ojibwe band to which all the Bleau dit Rossignal siblings belonged.
To confuse you even more, My g-g-grandmother, Marguerite Decoteau dit Baton's  second marriage was to Jean Baptiste (Jeandron) Rossignol dit BLUE who's ancestors currently reside at the Turtle Mountain Indian Rez in Belcourt, ND. These are my BLUE links. A former descendant of the Blue family informed me that Marguerite DECOTEAU and John BLUE married at Turtle Mountain about 1860.  They came from Minnesota.

The White Earth Indian Rez in MN sent to me a file of which they have on the BLUE'S and surprisingly my gg-grandfather Charles CAVILEER  records were also sent to me. They sent me a letter directing me to get further info. from TM from the BIA Office.

Is this Augustus Ruchenell Margaret Bleau dit Rossignal's brother Alexis? . . . As best as we can tell, the brothers who remained up north were Antoine (b. 1827), Alexis (b. 1829), Jeandron (b. 1830), and Etienne (b. 1844) -- though we're not entirely sure.  Help!

My first thought was that in my lineage: Marguerite Decoteau dit Baton, b. 1834, RRS,  first marriage (assuming a prairie wedding)  was to my g-g-grandfather Charles CAVILEER b. 1818. They had a son named Alexis Cavalier b. 1853 Pembina, Dakota Territory and was baptised at the Assumption Parish, in Pembina as an illegitimate son. Alexis was adopted to the Edward MARION Family at about age 3/12-4 years of age and resided in St. Norbert, MB until 1876. He then moved into Dakota Territory and married Felicite MARTEL a "half-breed."

There "are" two different BLUE (BLEAU) families but because they were all of a Minnesota or North Dakota Sioux or Chippewa  tribe from WI >MN >ND and Canada my guess would be that somehow these families do link. The BLUES that reside in North Dakota today were the first Blue Family at the TM Rez after 1850's, and did live in Dakota Territory and MN Territory at the same time of your records which could easily confuse anyone, especially me. They traveled to and from Dakota Territory into MN Territory in those earlier days along the Red River. Hard to keep track of their travels. They applied for Manitoba scrip but don't know if they qualified at that time of their application. I only received a partial record.

I would like a response and if possible, would like to ask if you can help me put my pieces together. I have sent an attachment of my John Blue and Marguerite Descoteau lineage.

By my finding your website  was an absolute "Blessing"  and I must Thank You all for a job well done.

Jan

Soon after she sent us the following documents; more pieces of the puzzle::
