Dr. N. J. Delehanty of Rutland made a call on his father, James Delehanty last week. ...

 

... Building erected 31 years ago upon the site of a similar mill which was burned in 1869.  The first mill was built by Ryland Hangar, who sold it to the Fair Haven MM Slate Company in 1866.  Allens (Charles R., Ira R., Frank) are the principal stockholders.

Mrs. Ryan of St. Paul Minn accompanied by her brother, Lawrence Kinsella of Fair Haven, called on old-time Castleton friends the early part of the week.  In 1849-50, Mrs. Ryan, then a young girl, had her home in Castleton. . . .

About 40 of the young friends of Ambrose Delehanty surprised him by calling upon him Friday evening, the anniversary of his birth. ...

 

 

(Ambrose Delehanty born April 11, 1887.  This article must refer to his 13½ birthday, but even that doesn't quite fit -- Fri, 16 Nov 1900 doesn't seem to correspond to anything in Ambrose D's life -- unless Joe Doran transcribed the date wrong.  Weird.)

Francis Delehanty of Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass., is home for the summer vacation.  Miss Helen Delehanty is home from New York for the summer which she will pass with her father, James Delehanty . . . Harry Downs, a student in the New York law school, is home for the summer vacation which he will pass with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Downs. . . .

 

 

 

 

 

Fair Haven Era, 10 Oct 1901

 

Hydeville . . . Mrs. Mathias Delehanty died at her home in this place at 1 o'clock Wednesday morning, after a short illness of heart trouble.  She was about 55 years of age and is survived by four children.  The funeral will be held Friday at St. Mary's Church in Fair Haven. . . .

 

Hydeville . . . James Delehanty has recovered from his recent illness and is again a familiar figure about our streets.

Ambrose Delehanty, a student at Holy Cross College, is spending his vacation with his father, James Delehanty.

James Delehanty and daughters Misses Mary and Catherine and William O'Day are in Worcester, Mass., attending the graduation exercises at Holy Cross college.  Among the graduates is Ambrose Delehanty, a son of James Delehanty.

Hydeville . . . James Delehanty, two daughters Misses Mary and Kate and son, Ambrose, who had passed the winter in New York, returned last week to their summer home in this place.  Mr. Delehanty is looking and appearing at his best and his host of friends are pleased to see him in such good health.  His son, Ambrose, is a student in the University of New York, where he is taking a course in civil engineering.

Miss Alice E. Wallace, who had been ill for some time with malarial fever, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Wallace, Saturday morning.  She was about 34 years of age and had lately been employed as a stenographer in the Grenoble Hotel, in New York City.  She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Margaret of this place and Mary of New York and one brother, Patrick Wallace of Whitehall, New York.  Her funeral was held Monday morning, at St. Mary's Church, the Rev. P. J. Houlihan officiating.  The pallbearers were John Sheehan, Frank Malone, James Hinchey, William Mahar, Martin McHenry, and John O'Day.  The display of floral emblems was something unusual and served to show the high esteem in which deceased was held in the community.  The burial was in St. Mary's cemetery on Washington St.  Among those present from out of town were Misses Mary and Helen Delehanty of New York, Dr. N. J. Delehanty of Rutland, Martin and Patrick McHenry.

Dr. N. J. Delehanty of Rutland was called to New York last week by the serious illness of his father James Delehanty.  He has returned as his father is some better.

Hydeville.  Mr. and Mrs. John Delehanty were end of the week visitors in this place where they have a summer home on the lake road.  They have recently removed to Argyle, New York, where they have a farm.
