421e1.   This is such an iconic image of West Castleton at the turn of the century that it merits this closer crop  [no 422 void].

423a.  "West Castleton  July 1905"  [Roddy and father Samuel Hazard.  Of special interest here is the depiction of the physical landscape.  I'd reckon that this is looking west along Cedar Mtn Road, toward the store and workers' quarters in the distance on the left; Lake Bomoseen would be to the photographer's left.  The photographer (probably Martha) was probably standing where Cedar Mtn Road going past the parking area is now -- near the old schoolhouse.  The house on the right is probably the first company slate house, a door or two down from the Hazard House.]
