This is the
end of the photos from the Martha B. Warren Collection taken on this
trip. After the last of the Warren photos appear two other small
bunches: (1) from the Rutland Historical Society, and (2) the John
Delehanty Memorial on Cedar Mountain. Photo No 448, of Uncle John
Delehanty's house at 9 Allen Street in Fair Haven, is the last one I
snapped in Vermont before heading west on State Highway 4 toward
Whitehall, NY on the return trip to Michigan.
Early in the
evening on Sunday, June 3 I reached Elmira, New York, where I spent the
next day scurrying around Chemung County seeking traces of Nellie and
the rest of the Kinsman's. The photos from this (very short) leg
of the journey begin on Photo Page 17. Pages 15 and 16 are kept
empty for now, reserved for more photos from the Martha B. Warren
Collection that I hope to gather in the future.

The most I was able to inscribe on this trip; just after
finishing and pouring water on it to get rid of all the dust.
It was a pretty muggy morning, it was taking forever to dry, and
I had to get to Elmira NY before nightfall. So I took the
photos while the stone was still a bit wet (I also didn't get a
chance to haul stone and shore up the pile of slate in front and
behind it. Next time). |

What was once John Delehanty's house, 9 Allen Street, Fair Haven
(not our grandfather John Delehanty, but his Uncle John
-- the brother of James, Mathias, etc.). So long for
now Vermont! |
